Our furry companions don’t handle heat the way we do — without the ability to sweat, their bodies can trap heat quickly, putting them at serious risk during warm weather. Heatstroke is a potentially fatal condition that can swiftly strike a dog in hot weather if they are not given any water or shade.

• Make sure your pet has a source of potable water.
• When leaving your pet unattended for more than a short while, always make certain they have access to a comfortable, shaded retreat where they can escape the heat.
• Regularly provide him a good wash and take him daily walks.
• Only leave him in the car when necessary and only for short periods.
• Don’t lock them in the van where they will have no air circulation or access to shade.

Body temperature of Dog:

Dogs handle heat worse than people. They can’t control their body heat like we do and don’t sweat.

You need to make sure that your pet has plenty of fresh water, shading, and food in order to prevent heatstroke. You should also provide a cool bath or a walk in the evening when it is cooler outside. Leaving your pet in a parked car, even briefly, can put them at serious risk — temperatures inside can rise or fall rapidly, creating a life-threatening environment. If the temperature in your parked car is rising, keep your dog in the shade by rolling down the windows or opening a vent. Do not lock them in, and ensure they have water access.

If they are outside and should be protected from sunlight, provide water, shade, fresh food, and fresh water. Bath them if they get too hot. If you’re feeling the heat, imagine how much harder it is for your dog — they can’t cool down the way we do.

Dog are not equipped with sweat glands and, therefore, pant to cool down their body. Protect your dog from heatstroke by providing fresh, cool water at all times and keeping outdoor activity to a minimum during the hottest parts of the day.

Heatstroke happens when an animal’s body becomes too hot and is unable to cool itself, resulting in a sharp increase in body temperature. Signs of heatstroke in pets include:

• Excessive panting
• Weakness
• Increased heart rate
• Difficulty to bark
• Difficult eating
• Vomiting
• Seizures (convulsions)
• Drooling and Diarrhea
